The 39-year-old Oscar-winning actress announced her romance with TV anchor and sportscaster Selema Masekela by joining a popular Instagram trend.

As they switch between clothing in the amusing reel, the two snap their fingers together to the rhythm of “The King’s Affirmation” by Iniko and Reuel Williams. The pair first dons matching blue and white robes and fluffy slippers before changing into matching purple bikinis with cheetah prints.
With their glam outfits, the duo amplifies the glitter. The two decide on a light blue and yellow look, with Masekela donning a similar yellow suit and Nyong’o donning a long evening gown with pineapple designs. The next outfit features Nyong’o in a black dress with orange motifs and a matching headpiece, and her partner is dressed in an orange suit with black trimming and black sunglasses.
The duo closes the clip in their final outfits: Masekela in a black suit and an orange undershirt, Nyong’o in a dazzling orange dress with pink rose- or Camellia-flower-like embellishments. At the video’s conclusion, the two momentarily buck the pattern and begin free dancing.
Although the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress has kept her love life discreet, she has previously fueled relationship speculations with her co-star Michael B. Jordan. At the InStyle & Warner Bros. Golden Globes afterparty in 2019, the couple staged a makeout session in a photo booth, but neither admitted to dating at the time.
“It’s flattering at the end of the day,” Nyong’o explained to Entertainment Tonight at the time. “I think it’s such a rare thing to find people you have good chemistry with and too for us to find each other as actors and get to work together, it makes the work richer that we truly enjoy each other’s company on and off screen.”
After growing close to Jared Leto during the 2014 awards season, there were rumors that she was dating him as well. However, Nyong’o made it clear that they are merely close friends.
“Jared Leto, he’s still on speed dial, because we were on that [Oscar campaign] journey together and he’s so embracing of me,” the actress said in 2019. “There was an intimacy that grew from that, that goes beyond the dating rumors, beyond all that.”
“Privacy is a commodity that is hard to come by,” she said, explaining why she was reluctant to remark on her personal life to Vogue U.K. in 2019.
“Filming is so time-consuming. And intense,” she continued. “With Black Panther, a lot of us were single. On Little Monsters, nobody was single. Everyone, when they’re done with their day’s work, wants to go home to their families, which makes a whole lot of sense. When you don’t have that it’s very isolating.”
